Motto
Honoring God
The very essence of the Christian Faith is recognition of the Triune nature of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. When we say we honor God we mean the Trinity as a whole. God is our source of strength, hope and faith. He is the reason we as believers become the church. Because of this we feel that we must honor Him in all that we do. We honor Him in song during our praise and worship service. We honor Him in the sermon by making sure that all we say lines up with scripture. We honor Him even in our children's service by making sure our children receive the Gospel of Jesus and the word of God each time they meet. If we fail to honor God in our church then we fail in every other area of ministry.
Imitating Jesus
1 Peter 2:21 says "This suffering is all part of what God has called you to. Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in his steps." The Greek word for example here is ologram or "hologram" and it literally means to copy for imitation. In plain language Peter is saying that we are to see Jesus as an example and practice being as much like Him as we are able to be. The four gospels give many examples of Jesus' nature for us to read about and practice.
Evangelizing Others
This final area of our motto brings it all home. We are to take what we know about Christ and the salvation He offers and share it with others. Jesus told us to go into the world and preach the gospel and for us "the world" means those around us. Let's put God's words into practice.
Here then is our motto. If you attend River of Life you know that we try to live this example. If you are a visitor to this site from another church or even another country I challenge you to take this motto to heart and make it your motto too!
