The ADDING and SUBTRACTING Principle for sermon writing

The ADDING and SUBTRACTING Principle for sermon writing

Ever wonder how you’d use math as an adult? Here ya go:

Never ADD content to your sermon on Saturday always SUBTRACT.

A sermon is kind of like like a baby…it’s never finished until it’s delivered. So my guess is that we pastors are constantly tweeking and editing prior to Sunday. I always look over my sermon on Saturday. You probably do to. And it’s perfectly fine to do so. I’d even say it’s wise to do so.

However, you should have enough hustle in your game all week that when Saturday comes you aren’t needing to routinely ADD content to your sermon but you are needing to SUBTRACT content from it. This is a good indicator if you are placing the right emphasis in your preaching prep.
